Controller for Reporting & Continuous Improvements - FinTech Projects

As a Controller working on FinTech Projects you will join our Global Accounting Team in our office in Amsterdam. You will be representing accounting in the design, implementation and launch of new business initiatives where Booking.com is involved in the funds flow between customers and our partners, with a specific focus on the financial reporting component of the product launch. You will also be responsible for identifying and driving continuous improvements to our existing accounting processes within the facilitated payments flows.

Strong communication and people leadership skills are essential, as is adaptability and capability to lead and drive change. You will be keen to develop and grow within the role and challenge yourself to take on additional projects and responsibilities as they present themselves.

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Collaborate with various teams across the business including product, engineering & data analytics teams to assess the impact of new initiatives on the financial reporting.
• Provide the required financial reporting requirements for new initiatives inline with all applicable rules and regulations (US GAAP, SOx / business control framework, etc).
• Work closely with Business Intelligence and Data Analytics teams to design, implement and test reporting for new initaitves.
• Drive the documentation & assessment of existing processes from an improvement perspective with a lean six sigma mindset.
• Identify, initiate, and drive continual improvements to processes with a focus on standardizing, simplifying & automating.
• Prioritize effectively the reporting implementation & improvement initiatives with upstream stakeholders being mindful of the company priorities.
• Manage and coach a team of Accountants and lead a reporting program, supporting and monitoring their tasks and projects, review specific areas and take ownership over the team performance.
• Maintain a team structure which can cope with increase in organization complexity and growth, invest in development of team members and continuity, i.e. succession planning.
• Be actively involved in setting and prioritizing the roadmap for the Accounting team & drive the team to achieve its objectives.

Required Education, Qualifications & Experience

• Approx 8+ years experience in finance and/or accounting preferably within a multi-national company (Online Payments Accounting knowledge is beneficial)
• University degree in Accounting, Business, or Economics
• Post-graduate education (CPA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Proven experience with leading the implementation of big data based accounting reports. Note big data experience is a must have for this role
• Lean six sigma qualification
• Strong experience working with Product, Business Intelligence/Data teams
• Proven ability to persuade and influence in effecting changes within an organization
• Strong experience managing teams, coaching, and providing training on the job
• Enthusiasm to work in a fast paced, highly diverse, continuous developing and high achieving environment
• High levels of personal effectiveness, particularly communication, stakeholder & project management and the ability to focus on achieving project deadlines
• Sound knowledge of US GAAP/IFRS
• Strong IT experience in financial systems, SAP & FICA is preferable
• Fluent in spoken and written English
