Operational Due Diligence Specialist

This is going to be your job

As an ODD Specialist you will be part of a team of nine ODD specialists, which are positioned centrally in the Investment Department of APG Asset Management. The essence of your job is to execute investment due diligence activities on our 300 external investment managers and 100 direct private investments globally. You will work closely together with the global investment teams in Amsterdam, Hong Kong and New York to support and facilitate the Portfolio Managers in their ODD efforts. The position will require the flexibility to travel on a frequent basis varying to one day (Europe) or multiple days (USA and Asia).

We are looking for an analytical thinker, preferably with some relevant working experience (up to 3 years). If you can combine analytical thinking with a pragmatic approach and the ability to apply a helicopter view yet have an eye for detail, then we would love to hear your story! Particularly if you also have affinity in digitalization.

You will work under the supervision of a Senior and will have the following responsibilities:

• Participate in due diligence activities on APG’s external investment managers and direct private investments worldwide. Typical activities include:
  • Perform an elaborate evaluation by assessing the policies and procedures set by the external investment managers.
  • Conduct onsite or virtual ODD interviews (frequently with C-level management) to evaluate the operational risk profile of the external firm
  • Write ODD reports and discuss conclusions and recommendations with portfolio managers
• Consider and monitor the integrity risks on external investment managers and direct private investments.
• Contributing to development and maintenance of 1st line risk control frameworks, guidelines, tools, systems, standards, formats, models, methods etc.
• Participate in the digitalization roadmap within the ODD team.

You are analytically strong, your work is accurate and you posess an excellent command of English (writing and speaking). You are able to form an independent opinion, willing to challenge and ask the right questions at the right moment and you are not afraid to ask for more information when necessary.

Additionally, you have:

• An academic degree and 0-3 years relevant work experience. A basic knowledge of asset management and related business processes is a pre;
• You have affinity with governance and process control, are ambitious and comfortable operating in a demanding, performance oriented work environment;
• Preferably you bring specialist knowledge or expertise in a field that currently is underrepresented in the team. Examples (non-limitative) include information security / digitization, compliance, and audit;
• Eagerness in self development by e.g. willingness to obtaining professional qualification (CFA, CAIA, or alike);

The willingness to travel internationally is a hard requirement. This might include being stationed for several months in one of the overseas APG offices.
