1. Purpose
Within the finance team, the credit controller is responsible for the collection of premiums and payment of claims, minimising the credit risk through debt management and account trend analysis, reporting periodically on developments within the portfolio and taking action to improve our processes and service (proactive, professional and of high quality).
The lead credit controller is responsible for supporting, leading and supervising the credit control processes. This will include the day to day activities within controlled processes as well as all credit control reporting.
2. Dimensions
The credit control team in Amstelveen is responsible for supporting the NL business. The credit control team is expected to have close contact and cooperate with different stakeholders, including but not limited to: clients, brokers, policy admin, claims admin, and finance colleagues. The role will take day to day responsibility, including support of team members, for the following areas:
- Oversight and execution of daily credit control activities and relevant ledger maintenance:
- Communication and cooperation with clients, brokers, policy and claims admin and other internal and external stakeholders
- Preparing and sending broker statements, reminders, other communications
- Preparation and execution of claim payments
- Processing bank statements and matching
- Monitor items under review and report on progress
- Quality checks to ensure accurate data is produced
- Maintaining the financial controls in the area of credit control
- Preparation, timeliness and accuracy of closing activities and reporting including explanatory commentary and advise where appropriate
- Preparation, timeliness and accuracy of ICF / J-Sox controls and audit files
- Maintaining and carrying out the activities according to agreed and documented procedures (including updating outdated procedures)
- Cooperation with IT, business and other finance colleagues to improve service
The holder will be expected to look for operational efficiencies and improvements wherever possible and support in projects or other activities to implement these improvements together with colleagues
3. Key Result Areas
Service. To understand the credit control needs and provide the full range of credit control support required within agreed service levels and timeframes.
Collection / Payments and accounting: Responsible for the maintenance of complete and accurate accounting records relating to premium debt and claim payments including month-end reconciliations and substantiation files.
Collaboration: Collaborate with all mentioned stakeholders. Build strong relationships which enable collaboration to increase operational efficiency across teams.
Debt monitoring and analysis. Performing review and provide explanation on debt developments, potential issues, and deviations in cycles to assist in management of credit risk.
Reporting will include actual debt, unallocated and unmatched cash, backlogs and other relevant measures (trend analysis) supporting in overall understanding of our debt and cash and enable remediation where needed. This will include calculations and updates on bad debt, litigation files, other.
Financial control framework. Supporting the maintenance and development of the financial control framework (processes and controls) including adherence to Group policies. To support the embedding of the financial control framework in the day to day activities.
Quality assurance. Production of all outputs to an agreed quality standard ensuring that the recipients can rely on the quality. To self-review work and to peer review where appropriate.
Relationship management. Maintain regular communication with internal customers to report on progress (two-way) and escalate issues. Represent the company professionally to external parties whether by face to face, phone or e-mail communication.
Risk management. Understand and support the MS Amlin Finance risk management framework consistent with the Group’s risk management processes. This will include ensuring that credit control risks are identified and controls are in place and regularly monitored.
4. The Operating Environment and Context of the Job
The role forms part of the cross country finance operations team. The finance operations team consists of credit control, accounting, accounts payable, and reporting and control. Customers across Finance and Business areas will rely on high quality, controlled and timely information. Close relationships will therefor need to be maintained to deliver a good service. You will be in contact with colleagues from different locations and our systems are in English.
To be fully effective in this role you should have knowledge of the insurance market and relevant end to end finance processes. Although minimal there are “busy” periods and these should become part of the debt trend process.
